Launching a New Team Well

Most new teams have weeks or even months to get up to speed. A client recently came to CI to launch a new team of 80 people tasked to support a high profile agency mission. They needed a common understanding of their new mission, a clear sense of roles and responsibilities, and a well-defined set of goals for the upcoming year. And they needed it in one day.

The 80 people making up the team had previously only worked in teams of 6-8 people. Now they were all going to have to work closely, and almost immediately, with the much larger group. To meet their needs, CI created a customized, interactive workshop designed to achieve the following objectives:

  • Clarify/validate vision of the office
  • Improve communications between office divisions
  • Establish mutual expectations
  • Create a sense of connection and shared purpose
  • Reinforce the importance of teamwork, communications and relationships

Through a series of exercises and activities that built on each other, we achieved their objectives, determined strategic goals for the upcoming year, and assigned action groups. The team was truly impressed that they had accomplished so much in so little time.
